Crash leads to arrest
A 43-year-old Belleville man is facing criminal charges after a single motor vehicle crash along a busy commercial strip early this morning.
Shortly after 1 a.m. Monday, officers were dispatched to a crash involving a vehicle that slammed into a hydro pole on Millennium Parkway.
The driver, identified as Chanse Perchacz, 43, of Belleville, was arrested and charged with Refusal to Provide Sample of Breath. Perchacz was given a court date of May 30, 2024.
Off-duty officer makes arrest
An officer shopping at a north end business while off duty ended up making an arrest late Sunday.
Around 9:30 a.m. the officer was shopping when he observed a 39-year-old man attempt to leave the store without paying for merchandise. The officer approached, identified himself as an officer and placed the male under arrest for theft.
The officer called the Belleville Police Service and fellow police officers attended, where it was learned the male was wanted on outstanding charges of theft and two counts of breach of probation.
The male was taken back to the Belleville Police Service where he was charged with the additional count of theft and released on all charged with a court date of May 16, 2024.
Charged is Tyler Watson, 39, of no fixed address.
Arrested for domestic assault
A 38-year-old male breaching probation conditions was arrested and held for a bail hearing after police were called to a west end parking lot, Sunday afternoon.
Officers were dispatched to the location for a report of a couple arguing. The male was arrested for breaching his probation conditions at the scene. Further investigation led to an additional three charges of assault stemming from his spouse.
The male, whose name is not being released to protect the identity of the victim involved, was charged and held for a bail hearing on April 29, 2024.
Public calls leads to impaired arrest
Belleville Police would like to remind the public to call in any suspected impaired driver following an incident that led to the arrest near the Norris Whitney Bridge, early Sunday.
Officers received a report of a potentially impaired driver in the area of Dundas Street West and Bay Bridge Road shortly before 2 a.m.
Officers arrived and the ensuing investigation led to the arrest of a 60-year-old Belleville woman.
Charged with Impaired Driving and Impaired over 80 mgs is Melody Brumsey of Belleville. Brumsey was released on an undertaking and provided a court date of May 30, 2024 to face the charges.
Three-day suspension
A vehicle stop in the city’s east end led to a three-day suspension for a 24-year-old Belleville driver, early Saturday.
An officer on general patrol stopped a female driver in the area of College Street East for a traffic violation shortly before 1 a.m.
An investigation led to the officer determining the female had been consuming alcohol and a roadside demand was issued to provide a sample of the woman’s breath into an ASD (Approved Screening Device).
The woman registered a ‘Warn’ on the device, which led to a three-day licence suspension.
Thurlow stunt driver
A 41-year-old Belleville woman was charged with Stunt Driving late Friday evening in Thurlow ward.
An officer on patrol clocked a vehicle travelling at 100 km/h in a posted 40 km/h zone along Harmony Road around 11:20 p.m. The driver was stopped and charged with Stunt Driving under the Highway Traffic Act. The charge also includes a driver’s licence suspension for 30 days and the vehicle she was operating was impounded for 14 days.
The driver was issued a court date in Provincial Offences court in June to face the charge.
Stopping for a bite
Breaching alcohol-related court conditions and attempting to bite people trying to help you didn’t pan out for a 29-year-old Belleville woman late Friday morning.
Around 11 a.m. officers were called to an area in the west end of the city near the courthouse on Bridge Street West after several city residents attempted to assist a female who appeared unwell.
The woman – who was determined to be intoxicated - was attempting to bite anyone who came close to her.
After arrival, police determined the female’s identity and that she was on court conditions not to consume alcohol.
Jessica McGraw, 29, of Belleville was arrested and charged with breaching conditions and held until sober.
