Civilian members play an important role in the Belleville Police Service. Civilians hold positions in several capacities such as administration, communications, records, human resources, courts, property, finance, custodian/repair, and information technology services. Civilians are employed as permanent or temporary staff in both full and part-time employment. Some positions involve a schedule of rotating shifts.

Civilian Opportunities within Belleville Police Service
Frontline professionals
Civilians work alongside uniform officers on a shift. Our frontline civilian professionals include:
- Call-Taker/Dispatchers take routine and emergency calls from the public, members of the Belleville Police Service and other agencies. The Call-Taker/Dispatcher will dispatch members of the Belleville Police Service and the Deep River Police Service, as required. For more information, click here.
- Special Constables are responsible for providing secure custody, care, transportation and escort (to the Station, courts, detention centres, hospitals, and other police agencies) of persons who are in custody ensuring that the safety and security of the prisoner is maintained. They provide security of justice system participants taking part in or present at court proceedings and ensure the security of all court buildings during the hours when justice system participants are present for court purposes. Administrative professionals
These members work in police disclosure quality assurance, finance, human resources, planning and research, general administration and corporate communications, among other exciting fields. Some of our civilian administrative professionals include:
- Court Clerks prepare, process, distribute and maintain information relating to Criminal and Provincial offices. They are responsible for safeguarding the integrity and security of information stored in CPIC and NicheRMS.
- Data Entry Clerks perform data entry by transcribing police reports utilizing the Records Management System (RMS) and also perform other clerical duties as assigned to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the Records Unit.
Technical and specialized staff
These positions require a highly-specialized skillset and/or technical qualifications in areas like information technology, crime analysis, facilities management. Some of our civilian technical and specialized staff include:
- Custodian / Repair Generalists are responsible for the fleet maintenance, cleaning, upkeep, maintenance and general repair of the Belleville Police Service facility.
- Digital Evidence & Redaction Clerks are responsible for managing and facilitating the digital evidence (video, audio, photo, document) records received at the Belleville Police Service. They perform technical and administrative law enforcement functions in the control, collection, redaction, disclosure, destruction, quality assurance and disposition of collected evidence. They are responsible for working with various technologies to monitor and fulfill requests for digital evidence. Their position includes a variety of responsibilities and requires a high degree of sensitivity to confidential matters.
