Order of Merit
An active officer of the Belleville Police Service and a retired member have been invested into the Order of Merit of the Police Forces by Governor General of Canada Mary Simon this week.
The Order recognizes long-time service to the community that goes above and beyond the call of duty.
During a special ceremony in Ottawa earlier this week, Deputy Chief Chris Barry was invested as an Officer of the Order.
The Officer of the Order of Merit recognizes outstanding meritorious service in duties of responsibility over an extended period, usually at the regional or provincial level.
At the same ceremony, Nadine Langlois, retired Belleville Police Service member and Human Resources and Financial Administrator, was invested as a Member of the Order.
The Member of the Order of Merit recognizes exceptional service or performance of duty over an extended period, usually at the local or regional/provincial level.
Less than one per cent of police officers in Canada receive the award.

The primary focus is on exceptional merit, contributions to policing and community development.
