Festive RIDE launches with MADD support   The Belleville Police Service is proud to announce the launch of this year’s Festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program, aimed at ensuring the safety of our community on local roadways during the holiday season. This initiative will run throughout the festive period, focusing on preventing impaired driving and promoting road safety. In a new partnership, the Belleville Police Service has teamed up with the Quinte Chapter of MADD Canada (Mothers Against Drunk Driving). As part of this collaboration, officers conducting RIDE spot checks will distribute educational pamphlets and materials provided by MADD Quinte to motorists. Halloween Safe Streets Program

On Halloween night there will be teams of volunteer guardians patrolling streets to keep the city’s goblins, superheroes and fairies safe while trick-or-treating. The annual Halloween Safe Streets program is set to roll out across city sidewalks shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday October 31, 2024. There will be approximately 100 extra people helping the Belleville Police Service ensure children’s safety while taking part in Halloween activities. Volunteers will be on foot and in vehicles on patrol to assist police. The volunteers will consist of Belleville Police Service Auxiliary officers, Community Policing volunteers, Loyalist College students, and Quinte Amateur Radio Club members. Our volunteers will be easily identifiable as they will be wearing orange florescent vests and will be walking in groups of three or four. These volunteers will be assigned throughout the city and their purpose is to assist the police by being an ‘extra set of eyes and ears’

Public Safety Alert

The Belleville Police Service is issuing an urgent public safety warning regarding a potentially contaminated illicit drug supply in the Belleville area. Several recent overdoses – 11 during a two-hour span Tuesday afternoon alone – suggest the presence of dangerous additives in the local illegal drug supply chain. There have been no deaths reported as a result of the incidents. The incidents began around 3 p.m. with two individuals experiencing overdoses near the intersection of Bridge and Coleman Streets, followed by a third person on Front Street. Around 5 p.m., officers attended a commercial lot on North Front Street and found a total of eight people experiencing overdoses. All of those impacted were treated by emergency medical personnel. Cenotaph Vandalism

Belleville Police are continuing to investigate vandalism at the cenotaph on Station Street earlier this month. Shortly before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday October 23, 2024, officers were called to the cenotaph location on Station Street by a resident who observed a female acting suspiciously. The female was observed spray-painted offensive symbols on a stone monument in the centre of the park before leaving. Officers searched the area; however, the female suspect was not located. “Our police service and community support our veterans and find this behavior reprehensible,” said Deputy Chief Sheri Meeks. “We would encourage anyone who may have witnessed this event or know of the identity of the individual involved to please come forward,” she added.
