As a result of the investigation, a 24-year-old female from Belleville was arrested and charged with uttering threats and breach of an Undertaking entered into before a Justice. The same female had been arrested 24 hours previously under similar circumstances and released from bail on an Undertaking. The female was held for bail on the new charges.
Safety reminder regarding the use of personal mobility devices
Recently a Belleville police officer while on patrol observed a vehicle classified as an electric wheelchair operating on a roadway. The officer observed several people inside the very small vehicle. When the officer stopped the vehicle, they were surprised to learn that there were actually five occupants inside which included one adult, two teenagers and two young children. These vehicles are clearly not intended to be used as minivans and are designed for single person conveyance. These vehicles do not meet the safety requirements to be transporting multiple individuals and pose a serious safety concern should they ever become involved in a collision on a roadway. Police are reminding the operators of these devices to use them as intended and on a sidewalk when available.
