Festive RIDE launches with MADD support

The Belleville Police Service is proud to announce the launch of this year’s Festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program, aimed at ensuring the safety of our community on local roadways during the holiday season.

This initiative will run throughout the festive period, focusing on preventing impaired driving and promoting road safety.

In a new partnership, the Belleville Police Service has teamed up with the Quinte Chapter of MADD Canada (Mothers Against Drunk Driving).

As part of this collaboration, officers conducting RIDE spot checks will distribute educational pamphlets and materials provided by MADD Quinte to motorists.

These resources will highlight the devastating impacts of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and emphasize the importance of making safe and responsible choices.

“Impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of death and injury on our roads,” said Sgt. Pat Kellar, who is the Belleville Police Service MADD liaison.  

“By partnering with MADD Quinte, we’re not only focusing on enforcement but also on education.”

The Festive RIDE program will feature:

• Random spot checks across various locations in Belleville.
• Enhanced visibility and enforcement efforts to deter impaired driving.
• Distribution of impactful educational materials from MADD Quinte to promote awareness and responsible driving.

Motorists are reminded to plan ahead by arranging for a designated driver, using public transportation, or utilizing ride-sharing services if they plan to consume alcohol or drugs.
