Mischief
On April 11 2023, the Belleville Police Service received a report of mischief caused to the West Riverside – Pirate Ship Park in Belleville. An unknown person had spray painted the park causing a significant amount of vandalism prompting the immediate closure of the park until city staff could remove the graffiti.
Belleville Police continued to investigate the incident with the assistance of the Criminal Investigation Division. As a result of the investigation, a 17-year-old male of Belleville was identified as a suspect. Police contacted the youth and on June 16 2023, he turned himself into the Belleville Police Service. The youth was charged with Mischief under $5000 and released on an Appearance Notice with a court date in July 2023. The Youth Criminal Justice Act prohibits publishing the name of a young person accused of committing an offence.
Impaired Driving, Counterfeit Money and Possession of a Weapon
On June 17 2023, at 1:30 am, an officer on patrol conducted a traffic stop and learned that the driver was suspended from driving. While conducting this investigation, the officer formed grounds that the driver was impaired and he was found to be in possession of a weapon. The driver was identified as Kevin Hazell, 32 years old of Belleville. Hazell was also a suspect from an incident on June 14 2023, where counterfeit money was used to purchase items at an east end business in Belleville. As a result of both investigations, Hazell was charged with Impaired Driving, Possession of a Dangerous Weapon, possession of a weapon contrary to a Prohibition Order, possession of a Prohibited Weapon, possession of counterfeit money X2, fraud under $5000 and Utter Counterfeit Money. He was released on an Undertaking with a court date in July 2023.
Assault and Breach of Probation
On June 18 2023 at 1:45 pm, Belleville Police were called to a North Front Street business regarding an assault. Upon arrival, police spoke to the victim and learned that an unknown male had thrown a drink on him during a verbal dispute. The victim followed the suspect to another business where the suspect proceeded to physically assault the victim causing minor injuries. Responding officers located and arrested the suspect. Further investigation revealed the suspect was on probation as well. As a result of the investigation, a 42-year-old Belleville resident was charged with assault and three counts of breaching his probation. The accused was held for a bail hearing.
Assault
On June 18 2023 at 7:20 pm, Belleville Police attended a west end residence regarding a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers spoke to a female who had suffered minor facial injuries as a result of an intimate partner assault. The investigation resulted in a 17-year-old male of Belleville being arrested and charged with assault. He was released on an Undertaking with a July court date. The identity of the accused is not being released in order to protect the identity of the victim and the Youth Criminal Justice Act prohibits publishing the name of a young person accused of committing an offence.
