Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 233 calls for service between 5:00 am on September 29, 2023 to 5:00 am on October 02, 2023.

 

Warrants

On the 29th of September 2023 at 12:05 am, Belleville Police responded to a residence in the city’s east end for an unrelated matter when they observed a male inside the residence who was known to them to be wanted for outstanding warrants.  A 27-year-old of Belleville was wanted on outstanding warrants for uttering threats, mischief, failing to comply with probation and failing to comply with a release order. After some negotiation, he exited the residence and turned himself over to police. He was held for a bail hearing.  The name of the accused is not being released in order to protect the identity of the victim. 

 

Arrest following attempted fraud at local car dealership

On the 28th of September 2023 an investigation began at a Belleville car dealership regarding a possible fraudulent attempt to purchase a new vehicle from the dealership.  On the 30th of September at 11:30 am, a male and female attended the dealership and attempted to defraud the business of the vehicle and were intercepted by police and arrested.  The female was found to be in possession of fraudulent identity documents and banking information.  As a result of the investigation, 28-year-old Jeremy Addotey of Toronto was charged with Fraud over $5000 and was released on an Undertaking with a November court date.  The female was found to be on similar charges from Vancouver and had been previously been released on an Undertaking.   As a result, Anurag Sidhu, 27-years-old from Brampton was charged with failing to comply with her undertaking, five counts of possession of forged identity documents, fraud over $5000 and identity theft.  She was held for a bail hearing.

 

Arrest - Drugs and Warrant related

On the 30th of September 2023 at 8:00 am, Belleville Police attended a residence in the city’s west end regarding a check for a wanted person.  The wanted male was located and arrested.  The male was wanted for assault with a weapon, failing to comply with a release order, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, theft under $5000, uttering threats to cause bodily harm, failing to attend court, Mischief and Sexual Assault.  In addition, at the time of his arrest, a quantity of drugs and cash were located on the male.  He is additionally charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking of Cocaine and Crystal Methamphetamine, possession of proceeds of crime and 2 counts of breaching his release order.  The 38-year-old male of no fixed address was held for a bail hearing.  The name of the accused is not being released in order to protect the identity of the victim.

 

Impaired Driving, Flight from Police and Dangerous Driving

On the 1st of October 2023 at 3:00 am, a Belleville police officer conducted a traffic stop at Station Street and Pinnacle Street.  While outside of the vehicle speaking to the driver, the officer was nearly struck by a vehicle that intentionally drove at them.  The vehicle then sped off at a high rate of speed disobeying a red light.  The officer attempted to catch up to the vehicle but it continued eastbound at a high rate of speed driving dangerously.  Police did not initiate a pursuit and the vehicle was not immediately located.  Police began an investigation into the incident and were able to identify the driver and the vehicle involved.  At 3:30 am, the driver was located at his residence, failed a roadside screening test for alcohol and was arrested.  Once back at the Belleville Police Service, the driver provided two breath samples which were over the legal limit.  As a result, 23-year-old Derek Bennett of Belleville was charged with impaired operation of a vehicle, operation over 80mg of alcohol, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, failing to stop at a red light and failing to move over for an emergency vehicle.  He was released on an Undertaking with a November court date.   

 

Traffic Enforcement – Stunt Driver

On the 1st of October 2023 at 11:15 pm, an officer was monitoring traffic near the intersection of Ashley St and Hwy 62 in Foxboro. The officer clocked a white BMW at 136km/h in the 80 km/h zone.

The vehicle was stopped and a 26-year-old male from Belleville was charged with Stunt Driving – Excessive speed.  His vehicle was impounded for 14 days and his licence was automatically suspended for 30 days.
