Robbery in downtown

An investigation is continuing following a robbery in the city’s core Sunday evening.

Officers were called to an area of downtown around 11 p.m. following a report of a male being robbed on the street. The male advised he had cash taken by two males, one armed with a baseball bat, the other with a knife.

No injuries were sustained during the altercation and police are requesting anyone with information to contact Const. Aaron Wentzell at awentzell@bellevilleps.ca or call Crime Stoppers at 613-969-8477.

Knife incident diffused

Shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday police were called to an east end apartment for a report of a dispute between a couple.

At the time, the female caller advised of a male acting erratically - holding a knife to his neck and threatening people.

Officers responded and were able to diffuse the situation and take the male into custody without incident.

The 36-year-old man was taken to Belleville hospital for an assessment.

Once discharged, he was held on three counts of breaching an undertaking for a bail hearing.

His name is not being released to protect the identity of the victim involved.

Two charged with assault

A disturbance in an east end apartment complex led to a number of charges against a male and female, Friday.

Police were dispatched to a report of someone attempting to gain entry to a home in the city’s east end around 4:30 p.m.

Officers arrived and learned a 28-year-old male and a 58-year-old female had been in a physical altercation with another couple living inside the home.

As a result of the investigation, charges were laid.

Charged with two counts of assault each were Joseph McDonald and Rosetta Cassibo, both of Belleville. While Cassibo was released on an undertaking with a court date of December 7, 2023, McDonald was held for a bail hearing the following day.

The victims involved in this incident did not require medical attention.
