Halloween Safety Reminders

With lots of excited children for Halloween, the Belleville Police Service are reminding residents to be aware of the increased presence of children and parents out trick-or-treating this evening.  It’s important to ensure Halloween remains a safe and fun holiday for everyone.  A few safety reminders and common practices are:

  • Ensure costumes are light coloured and easily visible at night.
  • Costumes should be short enough to avoid tripping
  • Mask should have plenty of visibility and should not be able to slip down covering their eyes.  Consider using face paint instead of masks
  • Use sidewalks where available
  • Trick-or-treat one side of the street and then the other to avoid crossing the street multiple times and when necessary, cross at intersections
  • Ensure young children remain with adults and older children communicate their plans to their parents in advance.
  • Adults should inspect the treats before being consumed by the children and any opened candy should be discarded.
  • Drivers are reminded to drive with extra care and attention this evening as the streets will be very busy.

Uniformed members of the Belleville Police Service in partnership with 70 Community Policing Volunteers will be spread throughout the community this evening to help ensure a safe and fun night for everyone.
