Held for bail

A 39-year-old Belleville man is being held for a bail hearing Tuesday following a violent incident at a home in the city’s north end involving his mother.

Shortly before 5 p.m. Monday police received a call from a city resident advising her son was on his way into town and had threatened to damage property if she didn’t pay the fare for his taxi.

A short time later the ex-spouse of the same male called to report the male had attended her home and as she was pulling away in a vehicle and punched her car.

Officers attended the ex-spouse’s residence and found substantial damage to the home – patio doors were smashed; a hot tub was damaged and several interior items were destroyed.

Police searched for the male throughout the night, eventually locating and arresting him in the area of Harmony Road around 2 a.m. Tuesday.

The male was held for a bail hearing. His name is not being released to protect the identity of the victims involved in the incident.

Looking to identify

Belleville police are looking to the public to assist in identifying a suspect in the theft of a trailer from a north end business over the weekend.

Officers were called to a Bell Boulevard business Friday around 9 p.m. after the driver of a Black Dodge Ram was observed stealing a trailer from the lot. The trailer is described as an aluminum single-axle flatbed.

The suspect was observed entering the business prior to the theft of the trailer and is pictured below.

Anyone with information about the identity of the male is asked to contact Const. Andi Boka at aboka@bellevilleps.ca or Crime Stoppers at 613-969-8477.
