Investigation leads to Fraud and Public Mischief charges
On the 14th of February at 1:30am, Belleville Police began an investigation into the theft of a motor vehicle. The vehicle owner claimed that his vehicle had been stolen from a north-end business parking lot sometime in the previous few hours. As the investigation continued it was revealed that the vehicle was not stolen and that the vehicle owner had initiated a false police investigation with the intention of committing insurance fraud. As a result of the investigation, 20-year-old Karanvir Singh of Belleville was charged with Fraud over $5000 and Public Mischief. Singh was released on an Undertaking with a court date in March.
Suspended Driver
On the 14th of February at 7:30am, a Belleville Police officer conducting speed enforcement in the area of Highway 2 and Elmwood Drive stopped a vehicle for speeding. A check of the driver revealed that his license was suspended. The 42-year-old driver was charged with driving while suspended and speeding. The driver was released with a summons with a traffic court date in April and the vehicle was towed.
