Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 181 calls for service between 5:00 am on March 15, 2024 to 5:00 am on March 18, 2024.

 

Dangerous Driving, Flight from Police and Impaired Driving

On the 16th of March at 3:00am, while on patrol in the city’s east end, officers observed a motor vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed.  The vehicle narrowly missed several pedestrians while they were crossing at an intersection. Police initiated a traffic stop however the vehicle failed to stop.  Police continued to search for the vehicle and later located it in the downtown core.  Police were able to safely stop the vehicle.  As a result of the ensuing investigation police arrested and charged 25-year-old Matthew Benn of Belleville for Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, impaired driving, over 80mgs, and numerous Highway Traffic Act offenses. Benn was released on an Undertaking with a court date in April. 

 

Domestic Assault

On the 15th of March at 8:45am, police received information regarding a domestic assault which occurred at a residence in the city’s east end several days prior.  Police began an investigation which resulted in the arrest and charge of a 28-year-old Belleville man for domestic assault.  The male was held for a bail hearing.

Mischief

On the 16th of March shortly before 8:00am, Belleville Police were called to a business on North Front Street regarding a male smashing windows and entering vehicles. Officers attended and located the male.  Through the continued police investigation, officers learned that the male had also caused damage to a local motel room. As a result, 37-year-old Daniel Sullivan of Belleville was arrested and charged with mischief. He was released on an Undertaking with a court date in April.

 

Break and Enter

On the 17th of March, shortly before 6:00am, officers were called to an east-end business on Newberry St. regarding an audible alarm. Through investigation it was learned that an unknown suspect had forcefully entered the business but was scared off moments after the audible alarm activated.  The investigation is currently ongoing.
