Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 246 calls for service between 5:00 am on May 03, 2024 to 5:00 am on May 06, 2024.

 

Suspicious vehicle call leads to arrests

On the 3rd of May at 9:15am, Belleville Police received a call to a north end business parking lot regarding a suspicious vehicle with two individuals inside who appeared to be consuming illegal drugs within the vehicle.  Police attended and began an investigation which resulted in 37-year-old Jason Meichelbeck of no fixed address arrested and charged with trafficking a controlled substance, possession of proceeds of crime and fail to comply with a Probation Order.  Further, 31-year-old Caitlyn Mitchell of no fixed address was arrested and charged with trafficking a controlled substance, possession of proceeds of crime and impaired operation by drug.  Both persons were released on an Undertaking with a court date in June 2024. 

 

Assault and Threats

On the 3rd of May at 1:30pm, Belleville Police were called to an apartment building in the city’s east end regarding a female who was acting out of control in the front lobby of the building.  The female had assaulted a resident and was uttering threats to others in the building.  Police attended and spoke to the involved parties.  As a result, a 57-year-old Belleville woman was arrested and charged with assault, uttering threats and breaching her Undertaking.  She was held for a bail hearing.

 

Refused to provide breath sample

On the 4th of May at 1:52am, Belleville Police observed a vehicle on Pinnacle St. travelling with no lights on.  Police conducted a traffic stop and spoke to the driver.  Police detected an odour of an alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath and a roadside screening demand was made.  The driver refused to provide a suitable sample and was subsequently arrested.  As a result, 22-year-old Quinin Weed of Deseronto was charged with refusing to provide a breath sample.  He was released on an Undertaking with a court date in June. 

 

Impaired operation of a boat

On the 4th of May at 8:00pm, Belleville Police were called to a restaurant on South Front Street for a possible impaired boater.  The staff refused service due to the level of intoxication and contacted police.  Officers were able to moor the boat and arrest the operator for Impaired Operation.  The operator provided two samples of breath which were in excess of the legal limit.  As a result, 42-year-old Luke Melnyk of Belleville is charged with Operation while Impaired and Operation with more than 80mg. He was released on an Undertaking with a court date in June.

 

Disturbance call leads to arrest

On the 4th of May at 3:15pm, Belleville Police received a call to a residence in the city’s west end regarding a male and female engaged in a verbal dispute.  Upon arrival and the subsequent police investigation it was determined that the male was confirmed to be breaching several of his previous release conditions.  As a result, a 32-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged with two counts of breaching his Undertaking.  He was held for a bail hearing. 

 

Traffic stop leads to three-day licence suspension

A 40-year-old Quinte West man was issued a three-day driver’s licence suspension after a vehicle stop in the city’s east end.  Police conducted a traffic stop in the area of Church Street and Victoria Avenue just after 2:30am on the 5th of May.  The driver had been consuming alcohol and registered a caution on the roadside screening device.  As a result, the driver received a three-day licence suspension and his vehicle was towed.

 

Domestic dispute leads to arrest and charges

On the 5th of May at 8:20pm, Belleville Police were called to an east end residence for a domestic dispute in progress.  Upon arrival police located the male in the hallway of an apartment building.  The male was attempting to break into the residence of an ex-girlfriend by kicking through the wall.  The male was arrested for domestic mischief.  Further investigation revealed the male had outstanding warrants for mischief, assault causing bodily harm and failing to attend court.  As a result, the 37-year-old male from Belleville was transported to Belleville Police Service and held for a bail hearing.

Arrested on Warrant

On the 6th of May at 2:15am, a Belleville Police officer on general patrol observed a male acting out of sorts on Front St.  Police stopped the male and after further investigation it was revealed he was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant.  As a result, 53-year-old James Hayman of Belleville was arrested on the outstanding warrant for uttering threats, assault with a weapon, and assault.  He was released on an Undertaking with a court date in June.
